Sound Script is a PDF markup tool for theatre sound designers and operators, built by Australian sound designer David Grigg. Your privacy matters to us, and this policy explains how the app handles your data.
When you import a script, Sound Script keeps its own copy of it. That means the PDF itself, all of your markup, and a small file recording the script's name and settings. Together these make up Your Scripts, the library you see when you open the app.
The app also keeps automatic timestamped backups of each script as you work, so you can restore an earlier version. Scripts you delete move to Recently Deleted rather than disappearing, and are removed permanently after 30 days.
When you open a PDF, Sound Script also calculates a fingerprint of the file so it can recognise a script you have opened before. This is worked out on your device and stored alongside your library. It is never sent anywhere.
One setting decides this. With iCloud Backup turned off, your whole library stays on your iPad, in the app's own storage. With iCloud Backup turned on, the library moves to your private iCloud storage instead. Scripts, markup and backups always travel together, so a backup is never separated from the script it belongs to.
When iCloud Backup is enabled, your library is stored in Sound Script's own iCloud container under your Apple ID. Apple handles the encryption and storage of that data in accordance with their own privacy policy.
Because it sits in your Apple ID's iCloud storage, the library is also available on other iPads signed into that same Apple ID. That is how your scripts appear when you set up a second iPad of your own. It is a backup of your own library, not a shared or collaborative space. Only you can reach it, there is no way to open it under a different Apple ID, and two people cannot work on the same script at once.
Sound Script does not operate any servers or cloud services of its own. There is no Sound Script account and no Sound Script cloud, and there is no way for the developer to see, retrieve or recover your scripts.
A Bundle is a single file containing a script and its markup, which you can send to another Sound Script user. When you export one, the app builds it in temporary storage and hands it to iOS to share or save. Where it goes next is entirely your choice. Sound Script does not keep a copy of what you sent, and has no way of knowing who you sent it to.
Sound Script does not collect personal information. There are no user accounts, no sign-in and no registration. The app does not use analytics, tracking or advertising, and does not share any data with third parties.
The app makes no network requests of its own at all. The only web addresses in Sound Script are the App Store and Instagram links on the welcome screen, which open in your browser when you tap them. Everything else happens on your device, or through Apple's iCloud if you have turned iCloud Backup on.
Sound Script can receive MIDI input from connected hardware (foot pedals, controllers) for page turning. This is processed locally on your device and is not recorded, stored, or transmitted.
